A bizarre image of a brown snake consuming a black snake has experts baffled. The black snake seems to be emerging from a hole made in its predators body, which has seemingly killed both snakes in battle (pictured)
The struggle between the two creatures has been stopped mid-battle and has raised the question of ‘What is going on in this picture?’
Geoff Mitchell, the man who took the photo, told 3AW that he has ‘thought about the picture [it] quite a lot.’
When asked how the black snake had emerged from the brown snakes body, Mr Mitchell responded: ‘I don’t think the black snake could have done it itself, I think maybe something may have helped it get out.’
Mr Mitchell saw the two snakes tangled together and ‘grabbed his camera and took a picture’ of the unusual incident.
‘I had to research it and it seems quite common for brown snakes to eat black snakes, but I have seen none where one snake has punched a hole through another,’ he added.
The mystery behind the picture of the brown (stock, pictured) and black snake was sent to experts at Australia zoo who remained confused. While members of the public are still unable to decipher what happened

The mystery behind the picture was sent to experts at Australia zoo by a listener of 3AW.
Experts replied saying: ‘Wow! This is certainly unusual.’
‘We can't imagine a black snake climbing into another snake but this entire situation is very strange. We would still suggest that the brown one was eating the black, but we will never know for sure,’ they continued.
In January last year a similar picture emerged of a brown snake duelling a red-bellied black snake.
The Canberra Times asked the man who had taken the picture, Gavin Fletcher, what had happened and he said: ‘The red-bellied black was obviously trying to get out and get away, but I think once the venom took hold he stopped wriggling and that was it for him – it was just a matter of time before he got eaten.’
In the battle between the brown and black snake, the brown was victorious in this instance.
