Klopp: If you’re not a ref or reporter, Mourinho “can be a nice guy.”
If you gave me the option of choosing only one option when it came to watching every Liverpool game or every Jurgen Klopp press conference, I’m not sure I’d choose the former.
Klopp continued his charming run of press conferences to start life as a Premier League manager. While failing to win big games like Saturday’s visit to Stamford Bridge will tarnish that charm at some point, we’re still in the honeymoon phase.
The German gave a quartet — at an absolute minimum — of fun quotes when asked about Chelsea’s quality, the task at hand, and managing against Jose Mourinho.
We’ll let you choose your favorite:
- On the trip to Stamford Bridge: “You think Tottenham was easy? Southampton was not easy. Do Chelsea players still know how to play football? Of course they do.”
- On Chelsea’s struggles: “I’m not close enough to Chelsea to know the reasons for their form. We have to respect the quality of Chelsea.”
- On Mourinho: “When I was in Germany, Mourinho and I sometimes sent messages. I have respect for his work. He’s a nice guy. If you’re not a journalist or a referee, he can be a nice guy.”
- More on Mourinho: “He’s emotional, I’m emotional, but we are professional enough to know after the whistle, normal life starts again. Everything is okay between us, no problem.”
It doesn’t change our opinions and predictions, but here’s an opinion for you: We love this guy.
