Thursday’s Transfer Rumors: Griezmann to Chelsea, Arsenal; Dembele to Man United
Antoine Griezmann is being linked with moves to Arsenal and Chelsea and reports in Italy from ItaSports Press suggest that the Gunners are ready to make the first move to bring the French international to the Premier League.
Griezmann, 24, has been a star for Atletico since arriving as Diego Costa‘s replacements last summer. The razor-sharp forward has scored 36 times in 72 appearances for Atleti but with both Chelsea and Arsenal said to be chasing him, he may find it hard to turn down a move to the PL. With Chelsea’s close links to Atletico after numerous transfers deals in the past, Jose Mourinho’s need for a prolific goalscorer with Costa’s drought continuing means you wouldn’t bet against the Blues brushing off Arsenal and making a bullish move for Griezmann.
But, that’s okay, because the same reports suggests that Arsene Wenger is keener on making a move for Paris Saint-Germain’s Brazilian star Lucas Moura. The attacking midfielder, 23, has scored 18 goals in 132 games for PSG over the past four seasons but this season he’s been in and out of the team and the right winger could arrive to give the Gunners’ attack more depth in January. Wenger is always talking about only spending money to bring in someone better than what he has, and if you look at Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain or Joel Campbell, you’d say Moura has more potential to become a star at the Emirates.
The London Evening Standard believes that both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are tracking Fulham’s young French forward Moussa Dembele. The 19-year-old striker has impressed in a struggling Cottagers side and his contract runs out at the end of the current season. That makes Dembele, who has scored nine goals for Fulham this season, incredibly attractive to potential suitors and both Spurs and United are looking for increased forwards options in January as their defenses remain solid but scoring goals has been the big issue for both teams this season. Why not take a punt on the French U-20 international who has impressed in the second-tier?
It is believed that Feyenoord, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Monaco have all been monitoring Demebele and they would pay a much lower fee set by tribunal due to Dembele’s contract running out in the summer which means European teams could sign him on a pre-contract agreement in January. As for the English teams interested, they could either pay a much higher tribunal fee than their European counterparts if they sign Dembele in the summer, or offer Fulham a decent price in January to wrap up the deal.
Reports in Turkey claim that Liverpool have all but wrapped up a deal to take winger Kevin Grosskreutz to Anfield as the 27-year-old will link up with his former manager at Borussia Dortmund, Jurgen Klopp. The versatile wide-man hasn’t played since August, as his deadline day deal from Borussia Dortmund to the Turkish giants in the summer wasn’t sanctioned by FIFA due to missing paperwork. The German winger, who can also play at right back, is believed to be available for a cut-price fee of $2.4 million from January 1 when he is able to play again and wants to leave Galatasaray after their carelessness in his transfer from the Bundesliga. The World Cup winner would certainly be a good addition to the Liverpool squad.
