An obese woman who learned she was eight months pregnant after she went to the doctor with stomach pain has revealed how the surprising birth of her daughter inspired her to lose her weight.

Anyce Banks, 30, from Windsor, Connecticut, weighed 421lbs when she learned that she was almost nine months pregnant. The mother explained that her period was 'always irregular', and when she started experiencing 'terrible stomach pain', she initially chalked it up to gas. After Anyce's symptoms persisted, the doctor discovered that she was pregnant - and due any day.

'Two weeks, later I gave birth, and that’s when I knew that I had to make serious changes to get healthy so I could be there for her,' she told Women's Health of what motivated her to get down to 230lbs.

Life-changing moment: The 30-year-old was inspired to lose weight and get healthy after she gave birth to her daughter, and she now weighs 230lbs (right).

Surprise of her life: In 2012, Anyce learned that she was eight months pregnant - and due any day - after she went to the doctor because of severe stomach pain.

The new mom started her journey by meeting with a dietitian who advised her to cut out all carbohydrates, including fruits and sugar, from her diet. However, Anyce admitted that during the first five months of their plan, she actually gained 15lbs.

'Since I'd only had two weeks to prepare to be a new mom, I wasn’t mentally ready to overhaul my diet, too. I emotionally ate to deal with everything,' she explained.  Anyce finally started to get serious about her weight loss when her dietitian gave her an ultimatum stating that she would drop her as a client if she came back the next month without having following the program she created for her.

Too much, too soon: After the birth of her daughter, Anyce started seeing a dietitian, but the stress of unexpectedly becoming a new mom prompted her to eat her feelings and gain 15lbs.

Overcoming adversity: Anyce explained that her dietitian threatened to drop her as a client if she didn't start following the eating plan that they discussed. By following following the low-carb diet, which consisted of lean protein and vegetables, Anyce lost 44lbs in just one month.

'I cried and promised myself I wouldn't go back to my "before" weight,' she recalled.
Her initial weight loss inspired her to become more active, and after she started going on walks, she lost 97lbs in three months.

New woman: Anyce shared these photos to show what her body looked like before (left) and after (right) her tummy tuck to remove the access skin on her stomach after losing more than 200lbs in three years.

Better than ever: Anyce said she still has more work to do, but she said she is grateful for how far she has come.

The more weight Anyce lost, the more comfortable she felt in her body, and her newfound confidence inspired her to start taking classes such as kickboxing, Zumba, and cycling and eventually begin lifting weights.

Anyce said she eventually reintroduced fruits and carbohydrates back into her diet, but she learned that she couldn't have potatoes and bread with every meal like she used to. Although she said she still has more weight that she would like to lose, Anyce said she is grateful for how much energy she has now.

'My daughter loves to be outside and go to the park,' she explained. 'For so long, I just sent her up the slide and waited at the bottom. I’ll never forget the first time I could go down the slide with her because I was small enough to fit.'
